El SeΓ±or Don Gato

image

He's baaaack!!

No distortions for today. This will be the bare-faced, no-make-up-look version of my cat portraits. πŸ˜‰ I am just happy to see this face again.

I picked up el SeΓ±or Don Gato late this afternoon. He was still groggy (they had to run additional tests this morning), but recovering well. His bad tooth was out, his blood profile good, the x-rays were all clear, and the swelling in his leg had gone down. As suspected, he had a puncture wound that was infected. You don’t need the CSI to know what happened there. 😝 When we got home, he meowed like crazy and wanted to be let out of his carrier, but I couldn’t do it because he was still wobbly. The other four were scared of this strange cat and hid in the bathroom. He was like Frankenstein’s monster, reeking of  unknown substances and wailing like a tormented madman.

I let him out after a while. His limp was gone and his confidence was back. He inspected the apartment like a perfectionist boss who just came from a long break. Is my favorite toy still intact? Is the water bowl full? He looked at every nook and cranny. He approached the others one by one. He hissed. No reaction. It was as if he was drunk and felt no fear. Even Astroboy was puzzled. Who is this creature. *hisssssss*

After about an hour or two, he finally settled down in the basket where I dump store my shoes. He always did have a shoe fettish. 😝

Welcome back home, Gato! 😘

Wednesday the Ripper

As promised, here’s my distorted cat portrait of the day. Wednesday still looks sweet here, but there’s a glint of madness behind those eyes. Haha. She is the Ripper. Give her paper, cardboard, even cloth and she will shred it in an instant. She remains gentle and Zen-like the rest of the day, though. This is the Yin to her Yang, I suppose. 😝

Distorted Cat Portraits

I woke up with a start yesterday morning. It was 3AM and I was having an anxiety attack. I couldn’t go back to bed so I fed the cats, cleaned the litter box, and wrote and drew in my journal. I fell asleep from exhaustion at around 7.

It happened again this morning, this time at 4AM. I did the same thing, but could not go back to sleep. So I tinkered with my phone, played with PicsArt and came up with this:

image

The Cat from Manila

This reminded me of El Greco’s “Caballero con la mano en el pecho” (or something like that!).

El Gato y El Caballero

Twister doesn’t mind wearing a doily collar! Hah! How macho is he! 😝

So I guess I’ll be doing more of these portraits. I should do a 30-day distorted cat portrait project! That would definitely stop me from being a lapse blogger. Haha.

Meowy Christmas

For the first time in a long time, I finally want to decorate my house for the Christmas season. I want a big, fat tree, but I’ve seen too many YouTube videos of cats taking down Christmas trees so I’m a little apprehensive about getting one.

Look at this. See what I mean? It’s adorable and all, but it can be dangerous for my fur kids, not too mention tiring for me. I don’t want to clean up all day! Well, I already do that, but let’s not add tassels, broken ornaments, and plastic leaves to the list.

So I decided to make one. I’ve been going on a sewing binge this weekend (I made curtains, a throw, and 2 cushion covers), so I made a prototype of my tree last night. I didn’t have enough felt, so the tree is only 14″ tall. I’ll have to get more fabric this month so in can make a 4 feet tall plush tree!

Have a catty Christmas!

Last week a friend gave me a set of mobile phone ornaments, so I used them as decor for my tree. I think they’re purrrfect!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

I added a topper this morning, a finger puppet from another friend.

Meowy Christmas!

I’ve been having fun making different things last weekend. The stress has been getting to me, so I needed to regroup and get creative again. Hearing the steady sound of the seeing machine was comforting and relaxing. This is going to be a long week, so I’m glad I was able to disconnect and work with my hands again.

Yeah, I think this is just the beginning of my Christmas decor project. I’m having too much fun so why stop with just a tree?

Decompressing

Last weekend was tough and today was such a doozy! It started on a very sour note and it just snowballed from there. I even dropped my phone at one point and it stopped working properly after! Lovely!

To sweeten my night (or should I say, fatten it!), I dined on Special Ilocos empanada (deep fried with veggies, longganisa, egg, and cheese! Yeah!) from Farinas. Yummy, but I don’t think I’ll be doing that again soon!

After drowning my sorrows in cholesterol, I’m now numbing my senses by answering online quizzes and watching cute cat videos. White noise can be addicting. Astroboy is bored by all my drama and has fallen asleep. Guess it’s time for me to log off, too! I get a clean slate tomorrow! Whoohoo!

Caturday Movie Marathon

20140125-201446.jpg

Friday night with great friends (more like family, really) turned into a chilly sleepover at the roof deck. I’m taking full advantage of my 3-day weekend (all my tutorials were miraculously cancelled—either the family was going out of town or attending an event. Yay, Teacher Steph!) by vegging with my people and now with my kitties. I am grateful! This is exactly what I needed.

I just finished watching “The Cat from Outer Space”, a campy, feline version of E.T. from the late 70s, and am preparing for the next one, “Despicable Me”. I am probably the only living being on earth who hasn’t seen the Minions in action, and I will remedy that in a bit. Part 2 is next.

So, good night, world! I shall see you in the morning. πŸ™‚

P.S. The Philippines is a tropical country and the average temperature here is 30-32*C. We’ve been having unusually cold weather the past couple of weeks; it was 16*C last night! I’m hoping for another cool night so I could thoroughly enjoy my mini-break. Good night! πŸ™‚

Wednesday on a Wednesday: scardy cat

The maintenance guy of our compound came over this morning and disrupted our daily routine. I usually feed my fur kids first thing in the morning after I get up. They all get hugs and kisses and belly scratches before I distribute their breakfast, though. Yes, they’ve got to earn their grub! ;o) We run around and play right after. I only get to sit down and eat mine after all this, which is probably an hour after I wake up.

So today Mr. Maintenance Dude knocks on the front door before I could get them all together in the kitchen. They all jumped out of their skins, of course (Hey, who changed the script?!), and did their own thing: Wednesday ran upstairs to hide, Twister ran to the top of the stairs to observe what was going on, Astroboy went up the first stair and waited, and Ella ignored Mr. MD and meowed for her food. I chatted with our guest and gave instructions on what to do and continued to prepare the kitties’ breakfast. Ella scarfed down hers, while Astro nibbled while keeping an eye out for the strange man in the house. Twister and Wednesday, of course, refused to come down.

Mr. MD stayed for about 4 hours. Twister made an appearance and demanded for breakfast and lunch; Wednesday was nowhere to be found. I had to rush out right after and go to my class and didn’t see her until I got home. She’s handling surprises better nowadays; she usually stays in her hiding place for over a day before gingerly coming out. She’s the epitome of a scardy cat, something that had always worried me before. When I moved homes back in October, it took her 3 days to come out from under the bed, another 3 to go out of the room, and about 2 days more to go down the stairs and explore the rest of the house. She would get feverish and would withdraw when she was spooked. It worried me that the stress would cause her to get sick.

But things got better after a while. I noticed a change in her after my foster cat, Jello, moved to her permanent home. She terrorized Wednesday, which made the poor lady more jumpy. And then Astro and Ella came into our lives. They drew her out of her shell and help her rediscover her “inner kitten”, the one who used to zoom around and play hide and seek in the cattery. It made me realize that up until December last year, she was probably unhappy. She needed to be with joyful, playful cats. Twister was just too antisocial and Jello, a menace. This makes me doubly happy that I made that decision to save Astro and adopt Ella even though I knew it was a risk and I could have disrupted life in our little bubble even more. I’m glad that it all worked out in the end and that Wednesday is on her way to being a scardy cat no more. πŸ™‚
