On discernment and gratitude

Things are definitely a lot more interesting when you have cats as your work from home buddies. I finally got myself a monitor and plug it into my 13-inch screen Chromebook. My eyes cannot stand reading miniscule letters anymore. 😜 The cats surrounded me as I started unboxing it and, as expected, they took turns diving into the box. Diego got first dibs, as usual.

I don’t want to sound corny or anything, but little things like cats playing hide and seek in boxes bring me joy nowadays. It’s true about what they say about contemplating on gratitude daily; it does keep you sane. 😊

I went through a rough patch at work recently, which prompted me to push back and protect myself. It’s tough enough to deal with what’s going on in the world, so I refused to have complications at work. It was difficult, but it made me rethink things and prompted me to go inside myself and practice discernment. I’m still here, struggling less, but still hanging on. I’m taking it day by day. I am extremely impatient, but I’m going to breathe in and out and wait for things to unfold in their own time. In the meantime, I will just enjoy the company of my fur children and watch them nibble their way through their cardboard fortress bit by bit.

Day 3: The Basket Case

image

The Basket Case

Unfortunately, Astroboy is a bit of a nut. He over grooms himself, he picks on El SeΓ±or Don Gato, and he climbs windows, cupboards, and shelves like a deranged monkey. But he’s my nut. He’s the sweetest, most sensitive cat I know. He will sit on my lap when a wave of anxiety is about to wash over me. He never lashes out at me when he’s annoyed. He lets me bathe him and administer his medication without a fight. He can be a handful and he’s always full of surprises. Life is never dull around this basket case. πŸ™‚

Distorted Cat Portraits

I woke up with a start yesterday morning. It was 3AM and I was having an anxiety attack. I couldn’t go back to bed so I fed the cats, cleaned the litter box, and wrote and drew in my journal. I fell asleep from exhaustion at around 7.

It happened again this morning, this time at 4AM. I did the same thing, but could not go back to sleep. So I tinkered with my phone, played with PicsArt and came up with this:

The Cat from Manila

This reminded me of El Greco’s “Caballero con la mano en el pecho” (or something like that!).

El Gato y El Caballero

Twister doesn’t mind wearing a doily collar! Hah! How macho is he! 😝

So I guess I’ll be doing more of these portraits. I should do a 30-day distorted cat portrait project! That would definitely stop me from being a lapse blogger. Haha.

Typhoon Glenda Ramassun

20140716-010746-4066433.jpg

It was eerily silent earlier. They said Typhoon Glenda Ramassun was going to hit Metro Manila early evening. Signal number 3 was hoisted over the metropolis at around midnight. The wind started to pick up around that time then it started to pour at 12:30.

Three of my four fur kids are fast asleep. Ella is keeping my tummy warm. The only one wide awake (aside from me) is my “first born”, Twister, who is standing guard by the fridge. I don’t think the wind will blow that away, sweetie! πŸ˜‰

I decided to house the two stray cats my neighbors and I have been feeding. They said this storm will be a big one, so I didn’t want to risk them getting maimed by flying debris or getting sick out there in the rain. Gato (a.k.a. Siopao) and Rorschach (a.k.a. Hitler) don’t like lodgings I’ve provided for them (my downstairs bathroom); I can hear them complain once in a while. I guess it’s too cramped compared to our driveway, but better to have them in a controlled environment than out there. They will get over it. Hope other stray kitties have found shelter as well.

And I hope the storm passes soon. This is going to be a long night.
